Mtito Safari Camp operates on a serious, rigorous policy to make sure that all avenues that could lead to any environmental degradation because of our operations are seriously investigated. Mtito Camp has put all measures in place that would aid in any prevention from any form of environment and community disturbance and a firm believer in giving back both to the environment and local surrounding.
Nothing beats the taste of freshly cut vegetables. We grow more than 95% of vegetables consumed at the camp. From Broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce etc. The camp prides itself on being one of the best places to eat fresh vegetables. As a policy, no vegetables are refrigerated because it is garden-to the plate, especially for the salads. No chemicals/pesticides or fertilizers are used. The garden is 100% organic with organic methods of pest control employed, as explained below in waste management. In addition, the staff take great joy in having fresh farm produce, exactly like their traditional home style, where food must be made fresh every time. A visit to the garden can be done, just request at the reception and the chef will proudly show you. You can even choose what vegetable you would like to eat, depending on what time you visit the shamba(garden).
In addition to the vegetables, at Mtito Safari Camp we produce most of our spices. This way, our kitchen maintains a very high level of organic produce which you will find greatly fulfilling and very tasty.
We produce majority of our spices, both fresh herbs and grounded herbs. You will love our yummy kitchen produce, and even more interesting is that we use organic sauces that are produce in our farm. We have several varieties that we grow organic, and some of them are purely for grinding to make additions to the sauces and soups. So, fear not, of over spiced foods. But should your tongue love its hot, we still have the herbs for you.
Waste management: without a doubt waste continues to be produced every day, as part of life. Here at Mtito we use the policy of REDUCE, REUSE AND RECYCLE. 90% of our waste constitutes black water, grey water and organic matter from kitchen.
The camp has built a biodigester which consists of bacterial chamber and filtration chambers. Both the back and grey water is directly fed into the bacterial chamber where a natural process of bacterial consumption takes place. All the hard matter is digested in this chamber and passes through to the 3-step filtration process. While at this level the water is ready for release into the environment, we still take through the natural Leeds rhizome purification process, whereby the roots for the Leeds purify the water and at is released back to environment. This is the water that we use for our camp trees and bushes.
All the waste is sorted at the source, with strict rules to follow the sorting procedure. All the organic waste is piled at the compost pit near the vegetable garden. It is let to decompose and is later used as part of the compost for our organic garden. This way, we are able to keep our garden’s nutrients replenished while at the same time taking care of our organic waste. It is crucial to note that since we grow most of our vegetables, the majority of our organic waste is taken care of at the source, where what will not be needed in the kitchen, it is taken care of at the garden and left there as organic compost.
Definitely, there is that small portion of waste doesn’t decompose easily. We have a adopted a policy of ordering supplies that are packed in 100% recyclable materials so that it can be collected and delivered to recycling centers where it will be taken care of with minimum residue if any.
In addition, the camp has declared a NO PLASTICS or aluminum foils policy. Recyclable aluminum water bottles are provided in the rooms and even for picnic meals, thereby forbidding the use of plastics within the camp. Tins/metallic wastes are handed over to recycling centers for smelting and recycling.
Obviously the office uses minimized paperwork, and repairs and maintenance departments have wood wastes. These two are put in the incinerator, thereby producing ashes that are good for our garden. Wood ash, also known as potash, is a good source of potassium for the soil. The ash from the incinerator acts both as a fertilizer, natural deterrent and a pesticide to some soft bodied insects that can wreak havoc to the growing vegetables.
The vegetable garden is open to visit, just request from the reception and the chef will show you around. You can even choose vegetables of your choice for lunch or dinner, depending on what time you manage to visit.
There are 3 water harvesting stations within the camp. Rainwater provides free, pure drinking water. The harvested water is then treated and purified through an advanced purification and filtration system. That is why drinking water for our guests and staff is never for sale. Mother nature has taken care of us all. In addition, this also helps us minimize what is coming into camp, reducing waste production before it happens.
The camp has a borehole that provides more than enough water for entire camp use. The water is solar-powered and is pumped into the raised reservoir tanks and is supply to the whole camp through gradient. This way the need for further power use in pumping is reduced. While the water is fine for drinking, it is a bit saline and not tasty to drink. However, drinking water is provided in the room for free.
The camp is 100% solar powered 24 hours. From shower water in your rooms, staff quarters, street lighting including the kitchen. The showers use advanced standalone solar boilers that use any minimal solar energy available and converting it heating energy. Water Is heated and stored in the thermal tanks, waiting for your use. At the same time, same solar energy is stored in the batteries for use at night. So, during the day we use pure natural light and direct solar power, while at night we use stored energy generated during the day. That includes the water pump. Solar has its limits also during the rainy season. We have a back up generator for such days, which is rarely used, but on standby, should the need arise.
For some food items, Pressure cookers are used to conserve cooking gas. This way, cooking time is reduced by more that 40%, thereby reducing cooking gas used, eventually minimizing emissions.
The best part. We take pride in having the best team. Very cooperative, eager to help and quick to serve. You will feel at home the minute you arrive at the gate. You will be welcomed to the camp, and you will start creating those memories that you treasure forever. Should you need anything or any assistance, feel free to reach out to any staff and you will be assisted. All the staff are especially trained in first aid and emergency procedures. But most importantly, they are the leaders in environmental matters where they continue to be part of the ever-on going tree planting. Every staff member has planted a tree, with the responsibility of seeing to it that the tree is taken care for, in return to all the good that mother nature has provided unto us and the earth at large. Let’s all offset some carbon emissions every day.

We generate our own green energy, use a bio-digester for waste management, and recycle 95% of our water. Our commitment to sustainability ensures a minimal environmental impact while providing exceptional comfort.
EXCELLENT Based on 201 reviews Posted on Departure43927799765Verified Memorable Stay Near Masai Mara Mtito Safari Camp is a wonderful location from which to set off on your safari (Masai Mara in only 15 min away). The camp is beautiful and the tents are set along the banks of a rushing river. Monkeys play in the trees and hippos wallow in the river. The tents are comfortable, fully plumbed and electrified, and have all the necessities. The on-site chef, Justus, is memorable and does his best to make sure the food is delicious. The camp can be muddy when it rains so be sure to bring some wellies.Posted on john mVerified Incredible Amazing people and awesome place to bePosted on Manuel WVerified Einfach unglaublich schön! L équipe propose aussi une petite touche personnelle que je vous laisse découvrir…Posted on Sub712Verified Joy and Comfort in the African Bush From the moment we were met by Brenda and her team in the reception area, our wonderful experience started. If you are looking for well manicure lawns and foliage, then staying at a bush lodge is not for you. From the outside the accommodation gave us a little concern. But once the tent entrance was unzipped and we saw the inside all worries disappeared. Very clean and comfortable accommodation. We had a view of the Mara river from our porch and restaurant seating area, with a small Hippo family living in the river in front of restaurant. Chef Jusus prepared wonderful meals each day and came out to personally speak to all guest. The security, housekeeping, and wait staff were on point and all ready to help. The only issue we had was when it rained so hard one evening, that water seeped in from the bottom of tent and wetted one side of the room. So you may want to keep your luggage off floor. Now getting to the lodge will be an interesting and bumpy experience, but that's not the lodges fault. Kenyan roads and traffic.Posted on Julia KVerified Ein Glücksort in der Natur - jederzeit gerne wieder! Great stay The rooms were clean. The water is hot. They take a sustainable approach to everything. Food is excellent. We even watched hippopotamus from the dining area before dinner.Posted on H SVerified Best Almost Luxury Tent Camp Ever This hotel is wonderful! Everyone should stay at this serene, eco friendly camp. The tents are quite luxurious with full bathroom set up. Each tent opens onto a river view and has a front deck where you can enjoy reading a book and watching animals that may walk by on the opposite river bank. The meals are very good, made with ingredients from their organic garden. And, most of all, the staff are all marvellously wonderful, helpful and kind. Only 15 minutes to the Masai Mara National Reserve.Posted on Eva TVerified Dva dny v přírodě Stany v přírodě byly úžasné a skvěle zařízené.. Personál byl milý a snažil se. Bohužel jsme měli chladnější počasí a bouřky oba večery.. Wifi signál slabší, ideální je se odpojit a zkusit detox 😁 Hroši u večeře byly super bonus 🦛Posted on DoIHaveToVerified Tranquil safari camp with top-notch service This was the highlight of our 8-day safari trip to Kenya. The best part of the camp is there are only 10 tents, so it is very peaceful and quiet, and the staff is very attentive to your every need. They just suggested 6:00 pm dining time upon hearing my 10 year old say that he is hungry (their regular time is 7:30 pm). The chef comes and meets every morning and night to ask about the dinner menu and what to pack for breakfast. Most of the dinner comes from their own kitchen garden, and the chef is very creative. And of course you can see giraffes and hippos from the camp. We would love to come back again!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. The camp perfectly combines comfort and adventure — the tents were spacious, clean, and beautifully set up with stunning views of the surrounding wilderness. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home, always attentive and friendly. The food was delicious, fresh fruits and vegetables from their garden. BeauchampTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel right at home with their warmth and genuine friendliness — nothing was ever too much trouble. Every detail of our stay was handled with such care. The food was an absolute highlight — fresh, flavorful, and always served with a smile. Much of it comes straight from their own organic garden, which makes every meal feel extra special. The camp itself is pristine and comfortable, a perfect retreat after a day out on safari. As a thoughtful touch, we were even invited to plant a tree — we chose an olive tree — which made the experience feel both warm and meaningful.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
